Bowen & Music

promoting “Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours” ~ Elton John, who says we should never be afraid of saying three simple words: “I need help.” Music can be therapeutic indeed. In this sense, musicians are ‘healers’ or ‘therapists’.

In Bowen technique, therapists could be viewed as ‘musicians’ who make music on the musical instruments, our human bodies. Tendons and ligaments are strings, keys and valves. Muscles are soundboards and fingerboards. Fascia is the drumheads or resonators. Bowen therapists enable the resonating of beautiful music on human bodies by facilitating its own fine ‘tunings’, in perfect pitching and in the very nice timings and rhythms. Bowen therapists are the musicians
who play the Bowen notes (moves) onto our bodies. The moves make the strings to vibrate and send signals through the nervous system to the brain which then gives out feedbacks to the areas of the body that needing work, thereby causing the related muscles, tendons, or nerves to release tension. Besides taking an effect on our musculoskeletal and nervous systems, it could also affect the other body functioning systems like circulatory, respiratory, digestive, lymphatic, endocrine, immune and reproductive systems. All these systems are very important in working together to maintain homeostasis and ensure the proper functioning of the human body. The result of Bowen treatment is a whole body balancing, impacting on the individual’s overall well-being.

Talking on Music and Bowen, musicians need to practise for hours and hours a day. Overworking could cause pains or restrictions. Bowen therapists could help pianists and violinists on their finger, wrist, forearm, elbow or shoulder problems. Vocal and wind students may find the respiratory moves of Bowen treatment beneficial on enabling them to have a greater lung capacity. Bowen therapy can also help with back and neck tensions, RSI, tense jaws, lower back pain and frozen shoulders. It was reported that a very high success rate was attained in Guildhall School of Music and Drama which has been so considerate and thoughtful as to take in Bowen therapists to help their students.

I hope to integrate my two specialised skills, Bowen technique and Music, and embark on a new project of helping the musicians in Hong Kong with Bowen Technique. Hope to share with you all again on the results and findings in the future. health

Bowen on nasal allegy

A boy came for Bowen therapy for his nasal allergy problems. With just one treatment, he found himself symptoms free for a month now. 鼻敏感好番啦!
Many people are suffering from nasal allergy problems. The immune system thinks it has come into contact with a harmful agent, meaning it overreacts and produces immunoglobulins which release the chemicals that irritate your nose, eyes or throat.
Bowen Therapy can help to alleviate allergy symptoms effectively and act as a long term prevention of the over reactive allergic processes. By improving circulation and lymphatic processes within the body, Bowen improves the immune system of the body and reduces the reaction of antigens to foreign allergens.
Sometimes impingement of the cervical spine and associated tightness of the neck muscles can contribute to exasperation of allergic responses of the body. Through a Bowen treatment, these problems are addressed and eased.
Very often, people discover the anti-allergy properties of Bowen treatment by accident. A typical example is that a man came for treatment for his ankle injury, and then discovered that his body was not reacting as usual to the allergens that usually torment him. So he recommended his relatives and friends to come for Bowen as well.
Are you suffering with nasal allergies? If so, the Bowen Technique could help you :)

Anne Schubert, an experienced Bowen Instructor and Practitioner, travelling around the world teaching Bowen Technique and Mind Body Bowen. This is a beautiful picture of Anne with Mona, her 102 year old client who's taking regular Bowen therapy . Please read what Anne has written a few days ago:
"If ever you needed confirmation of the true potential of the Bowen Technique treat an elderly client. Mona will be 102 years old on Christmas day. She has been receiving her bi-weekly sessions for 12 years declaring they give her more energy, clarity of thought and calmness, plus easing her aches and pains. She recommends it to her family, friends, church members, tradespeople and medical support workers. Hardly a week goes by without someone making an appointment as a result of Mona's enthusiasm."
